Dambulla

Dambulla, is an often forgotten destination and for the most part, remains off the tourist trail.

The city of Dambulla is famous for the Dambulu Caves. This was a Buddhist monastery in the times of King Walagamba. This cave has unique wall art which can be only found in Dambulla Caves. It is home to the world’s most acclaimed cave complex of magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colours and shapes constructed and painted from around the second century BC (Anuradhapura era) and continued up to the Kandyan era.
